    The rise of generative artificial intelligence (AI) has transformed educational assessment design, offering unprecedented speed and creativity in producing tasks, rubrics, and feedback. Yet this technological promise risks becoming superficial if divorced from the foundational principle of assessment: alignment with learning outcomes. This presentation argues that outcomes remain the non-negotiable anchor of assessment validity, authenticity, and fairness. Generative AI can enhance assessment design, but only when guided by clearly articulated outcomes that define what learners are expected to know, do, and value.
