Course Description:

The rise of generative artificial intelligence (AI) has transformed educational assessment design, offering unprecedented speed and creativity in producing tasks, rubrics, and feedback. Yet this technological promise risks becoming superficial if divorced from the foundational principle of assessment: alignment with learning outcomes. This presentation argues that outcomes remain the non-negotiable anchor of assessment validity, authenticity, and fairness. Generative AI can enhance assessment design, but only when guided by clearly articulated outcomes that define what learners are expected to know, do, and value.

Traditional LMS platforms like myTIMEs often function as digital filing cabinets static spaces where resources are stored but engagement is lost. This pitch introduces Walter, an AI Peer Learning Buddy designed to breathe life into myTIMEs.

Walter isn't just a tool; he is a 24/7 learning companion who lives within the HyFlex ecosystem. He transforms the student experience by monitoring progress in real-time, offering personalized feedback precisely when it’s needed, and bridging the gap between physical and virtual classrooms. By shifting the focus from 'content storage' to 'active support,' Walter ensures that in the world of blended learning, every student has a buddy to guide them toward success

This session explores how California Metropolitan University (CMU) integrates artificial intelligence into health simulation to enhance teaching, learning, and clinical decision-making in higher education. The presentation will highlight CMU’s approach to designing AI-enabled simulations that support adaptive learning, learner engagement, and real-time feedback within digital learning environments.

Participants will gain practical insights into how AI-driven health simulations can be aligned with curriculum outcomes, embedded within LMS platforms such as Moodle, and used to bridge the gap between theory and practice in healthcare education. The session will also discuss key lessons learned, implementation considerations, and future directions for AI-powered simulation in academic settings.
